GMAT Sentence Correction section tests your ability to find grammatically correct sentences. The errors lying in multiple areas pose a lot of problems to the test takers. Hence, to fetch good scores in this section, you must perform at your best. Here, I have included a few points that would help you maximize your score in the GMAT Sentence Correction sections.
In the GMAT sentence correction questions, you will get a sentence parts of which have been underlined. The underlined portion of the sentence contains some errors in terms of grammar, sentence structure, diction errors, and the overall meaning. This sentence is followed by five options that contain texts that are supposed to correct the underlined portions of the original sentence. However, the first option, i.e., (A), simply copies the underlined part of the original sentence and appears to be correct only once in every five or six times. So, your job is to identify which option holds the words that rectify the underlined part of the sentence.
In order to answer this section correctly, read the entire sentence thoroughly. While reading, pay attention to multiple errors in the sentence. As I said, don’t spend much time reading the first option since it writes the underlined part of the sentence as it is. However, don’t ignore it altogether. Don’t fret over spelling or capitalization errors in the sentence for they are not checked in the GMAT. Always read the original sentence twice, if possible thrice, and then create your own sentence that you think is the best. Just because an answer choice looks wordy don’t ignore it because it may be grammatically correct. Likewise, if you find a sentence catchy in certain ways, don’t select it blindly for it may contain errors in other aspects. By sticking to the elimination process rule out the options that look awkward to you. Sometimes, you may get stuck between two options that look similar. In such a case, you have to rely on your reasoning to find the one that is the best. Practice, practice and practice. This is the prime key to your success.
